Tanning Lafayette

Welcome to Tanning Lafayette

I wanted you to find my website because unlike other sites that may pop up, I do not own my own salon for Lafayette tanning, but I’ve used them for many years and tried many of the ones in town. I’m actually an impartial consumer who would like to be your unofficial tanning adviser.

Personally I look for places in Lafayette that offer great customer service, modern tanning beds, additional products such as lotions, spray tan, and tan extenders, and convenient hours and locations throughout Lafayette.  More than all of that, I was looking for a business that didn’t seem like a factory that manufactured tanning customers, but rather a more private, exclusive experience where I felt more privacy and cleanliness.  I also wanted to feel like I was dealing with real people who cared about the experience and not just a big corporate money grab.

This challenge in finding a great value and highly unique  place motivated me enough to create this site to help you find some better options. You can thank me later ;-)

Now, I am not going to bash any of the big chains out there but I will make a solid recommendation of a great place that is very competitively priced, has flexible hours and tanning packages, lots of other additional tanning accessories and products, and is clean, well managed and values every customer.

Tanning Lafayette – What’s Here For You

Hopefully after spending a few minutes here, you will know how to select a great local salon.  If you are like most people and too busy to go online and find one and navigate all the options online, then you can at least be armed with a solid recommendation from a consumer who has pieced together the most important things to look for in Lafayette for your options.

So, if you want to try something pleasantly different and unique, or are looking for a new place to call your tanning home, Tanning Lafayette may be able to help you.

I used to not know the differences between UVA and UVB rays or which one helped me get the dark tan without the harmful rays…maybe you didn’t either?

No worries!  I will cover all of this. We will look at what is important and cover how to select a good place that is locally owned and operated.

TANNING LAFAYETTE – GETTING THE DEEP GOLDEN TAN

If you are like me, I want to get a deep golden color, but I also want to know it is safe.  I wanted to get the information to satisfy this safety need, how I would be treated when walking in the door, and to have my appointment time honored.  This was a starting point in my quest to find a good spot for tanning in Lafayette.

TANNING LAFAYETTE – SAFETY

One of the biggest issues I had and most people probably have is safety.  You don’t want the experience to turn bad due to cords being out where you can trip or the equipment areas not being kept clean. The machines also need to be well maintained with emergency shut off switches clearly marked.  This all may sound obvious but ask around and you will hear horror stories, particularly from bigger chain salons who have too much volume to care about doing things right.  Just be sure to read the safety information as well as talking with the salon staff before using their equipment.

TANNING LAFAYETTE – INFORMATION

A good tanning salon will have plenty of information for you to read over.  What you will review should cover how the equipment works and different products the salon offers.  It should also include safety warnings about overexposure and making sure you follow the guidelines.  Most smaller locally owned salons have great employees who have been trained to be more than helpful and enjoy helping.  So if you have any questions just ask. The staff will know what is safe and they can offer suggestions such as how long you should tan at each session for your skin type.

Two good online resources for you to check out in addition to Tanning Lafayette for more information are the American Tanning Institute and the Indoor Tanning Association.

TANNING LAFAYETTE – APPOINTMENT TIMES

A well-run business realizes your time is very important. If you have an 10 am appointment that is when a machine area should be available to you. Before you pay for anything, find out what their policies are on this.  If you will be kept waiting on a regular basis because of over scheduling or other people coming in late, then go to another facility.  Good tanning salons do not operate like doctors offices in this fashion.

TANNING LAFAYETTE – EQUIPMENT

It is a good idea to make sure you check out the various types of equipment offered.   Most places offer tanning beds and booths. Not all of them do though so make sure you ask what they feature and what the benefits of one of the other are.  The differences are detailed in video on this site.  Many Lafayette area salons have also added sunless equipment for those concerned about UV rays but still want a great look.  Individual attention and smiling service should be something you look for in a good tanning salon. You should be greeted when you walk in or when you call them. Ask for a tour of the location so you can see for yourself if it is right for you. If you don’t feel comfortable then it likely isn’t the right place for you.

TANNING LAFAYETTE – VALUE

For many people in Lafayette, indoor tanning is more of a luxury than necessity and want a good price. They don’t want to spend too much money in order to look good. Compare the price but also the features, the service, and the overall experience. Based on all of these factors you can make a good decision. Some places offer a free session so this could be a chance for you to really check it out without spending any money before verifying it is the right place for you.

Take the basic steps in this website and you will find a good tanning one in Lafayette.  Tanning Lafayette is happy to give you a solid recommendation if you’d like to contact us so we can point you in the direction of a top-rated salon.

Tips for Getting a Tan in Time for Summer

Tanning Lafayette knows indoor tanning is an excellent way to get a head start on your summer tan. Visits to tanning salons spike during the springtime.

Specific timers, along with the ability to control temperature and wear safety glasses give indoor tanning an edge against the old fashioned method of outdoor sunbathing. There is no fear of the severe burns that can occur if you happen to take a nap outdoors.

Getting a base tan can provide insurance against severe burning when you go out into the summer sun for the first time. Avoiding tan lines and uneven coloring is another advantage of indoor tanning, since you don’t need to wear a swimsuit if you choose not to.

Sloughing off dead skin is a great way to get ready to to tan. Exfoliating in the shower, focusing on the arms and legs is the most efficient way to remove dead skin. A good moisturizer can keep skin soft and help maintain an even tan after exfoliating.

The first indoor tan should be kept to a time ranging between seven and ten minutes. Over the next several sessions, the time can be increased up to twenty minutes. If you can feel a stinging sensation on your skin, it is time to end the session to avoid burning. Darkening continues for about four hours after your session, so it is important not to shower until sufficient time has passed. Keeping skin soft and supple during and after tanning is very important to the evenness of the tan. You can accomplish an outstanding tan indoors if you follow these guidelines and remember to moisturize.

AirBrush Tanning

Welcome back to Tanning Lafayette.

I don’t know anybody who isn’t dying to have that “sunkissed glow” and America is not the only country who’s obsessed about tanning. Most of us are concerned about safety issues though. More than anything, we are concerned about the possible health hazards and harmful side effects of tanning beds. It’s always safe to be sensible and remember that anything in excess is not good. If you are not too keen on tanning beds, why not try airbrush tanning instead?

Airbrush tanning is done by applying the tanning solution using a compressor and airbrush. A typical session is done from 20 to 30 minutes. So how do these solutions make your skin tan? The active ingredient DHA builds a reaction with the outer layer of skin to produce a bronzing effect; this is somewhat comparable to what a traditional tan does.

DHA has long been used in cosmetic preparations and was listed with the FDA in 1973. Yes it is safe and suitable to color the skin. DHA comes from glycerin which is a commonly used cosmetic and food ingredient. Since DHA is not absorbed into the body, it eliminates the risk of toxicity.

One great thing I LOVE about airbrush tanning is that the pigments do not cause substantial damage to the skin if there is any. It must be emphasized though that these tanning solutions do not provide protection against UV rays.

The color of the skin will continue to darken after the initial application. This is for most of the tanning solutions used in the market today. The maximum or darkest color is reached within 12 hours. This should be specified on the solution directions. There are solutions available that contains a bronzer that provides an instant tan effect. This efficiently helps the technician to determine the areas of the skin that have solution applied already.

On an average, airbrush tanning can last from 4 to 10 days and this will depend on the aftercare attention you will provide and of course your skin type. You don’t need to get the procedure done more than once per week. You can use some tanning extenders to make your tan last a little bit longer. This will also help you keep the tan looking healthy and glowing. Think Jennifer Aniston’s envy-worthy skin!

The Healthy Side of Getting a Tan

Here is a list of just a few of the reasons people benefit from tanning experience in addition to looking and feeling a lot better.

Heliotherapy… Positive Effects from Sun

The sun can make us feel happier and more relaxed.  Having enough Vitamin D, eating well,  and getting exercise have become the trio of the most important preventive factors in being healthy.  Numerous studies link vitamin D deficiency with significantly higher rates of many forms of cancer‚ as well as heart disease‚ osteoporosis‚ multiple sclerosis and many other conditions and diseases.

Vitamin D Comes From the Sun

Exposure to ultraviolet rays is the best and only natural source of vitamin D. Vitamin D is necessary for our bodies to use the calcium we get from our food.  This vitamin is found in very few foods. Recent studies show vitamin D is lacking in the fortified milk supply in the U.S.  Your skin produces vitamin D naturally when it gets exposed to sunlight.  A sunscreen of SPF 8 or higher has been found to turn off and halt the skin’s ability to produce vitamin D.

When you get vitamin D from UV, your body gets what it needs in a form it can actually use, and then  de-metabolizes what it doesn’t use.  That is critical – as taking a supplement may not get you enough vitamin D or possibly too much, or it may be formulated to not be absorbed by your system at all, which means you completely wasted your money.  By getting UV-induced vitamin D you won’t have that problem – it’s the way your body is supposed to make it.

Skin Protection

It is well known that our natural tan process provides protection against burning.  Unlike many sunscreen products, a tan provides reliable full-spectrum (UVB & UVA) protection from getting burnt all by itself.

Seasonal Depression Therapy

Sunlight and simulated sunlight in small doses are a great treatment for Seasonal Affective Disorder, which some people call the winter blues.  Sunlight and simulated sunlight exposure have been found to improve low winter moods. Indoor lighting, on the other hand, is generally perceived by the brain as near darkness.

Reduce Symptoms of PMS

Exposure to bright light has been found to help reduce or eliminate some of the symptoms of Pre Menstrual Syndrome, such as mild depression and mood swings, irritability, physical discomfort, and social withdrawal.

A Strong Biological Clock for Optimal Health

Having well-synchronized circadian rhythms, or biological clock, results in  better quality sleep, daytime alertness, and optimal health in general. The more sunlight exposure you get during the day, the more in-sync with your environment your circadian rhythms will be.

Benefits of Indoor Tanning

Health is definitely enhanced by a reasonable amount of exposure to UV rays.

Enhancing your skin’s attractiveness is the most obvious benefit to most people, but even better is the skin’s release of vitamin D which provides many health benefits according to researchers.  Researchers have published studies on the benefits of indoor tanning salons and have learned that it can help lower cholesterol, enhance the immune system, reduce chances of heart attacks and even build stronger bones.

Indoor treatments also very relaxing if you’re in the right kind of indoor environment and reduces stress for many people.  People who have SAD (Seasonal Affected Disorder) have noticed significant improvement in their mood and overall well-being.  Even though sunshine will always be the best method to get vitamin D and the other health benefits, indoor tanning salons in Lafayette are a great winter option.  Used in a sensible manner they will assist during the fall and winter to keep your immune system strong and your skin glowing.

Be sure to start very slowly to reduce your chances of burning.  Many salons now offer a large number of products to assist in darkening and protect your skin.  It is best to learn about these products before using them.

Is Tanning Safe?

Everyone seems to want to have that Florida “glow” here in Lafayette. I guess because so many residents already have a fairly dark skin tone due to their their Cajun heritage which can really turn dark in the sun.  Fortunately, we can have it without enduring the harsh heat of the sun. You can go to a salon and in just a few minutes you will have the bronzed bod that you want year-round.  People always notice a nice tan, no matter where it comes from.

Did you know it is a fact that over a million Americans visit salons every day?  Yes, every single day!  About 71% of  indoor tanners are females aged 17 to 30 and they are the group who is seemingly more at risk for developing skin cancer according to researchers.  If you are like me, you are likely to ask, “How safe is indoor tanning? What are there risks, and how much is overdoing it?”

First, let’s take a look at tanning beds.  A good salon will give you information about the equipment safety, the healthiest way to get a tan and how to care for your skin before, during, and after your sessions.  To protect your eyes it is imperative to wear protective goggles which shield your eyes from danger.  Additionally, it is important to limit how much exposure you get to the sun, since sunburn can take a few hours to develop.

If the place has new bulbs in their booths or beds, you could tan faster.  Be sure to check with the friendly staff how old the bulbs are.  To be safe, in my opinion it is best to only tan once a week once you develop a tan.  You can still keep your tan after without obsessing over it and getting unneeded exposure.  There are also some products that help extend your dark tan.

It is important to ask questions and not be bashful.  The staff will have a good idea about what your maximum exposure should be.  If you are a natural red head for example and have fair skin then you do not want to be in a tanning bed very long.  You could use a stronger tanning lotion instead so you avoid burning.

Just like everything in life, tan in moderation and don’t overdo it.  There are risks to UV exposure. As long as you follow the safety guidelines the salon has in place you can minimize the risks associated with UV and still get the golden glow you seek.
